FAS5022- Designing and cutting for stretch fabric

Stretch fabrics pose specific design and manufacturing challenges and opportunities. Techniques differ significantly to those used for woven fabrics. This Project enables students to explore the possibilities presented by this group of fabrics. The essence of the project is design, led by creative cutting experimentation.
  • Investigation into the variety of stretch fabrics available, their applications and properties. (through
  • research, fabric store visits, experimentation and techniques)
  • Self-directed research to gain an insight into the potential of working with stretch fabric.
  • Experimental work on the stand to gain an understanding of fit and drape specific to stretch fabrics.
  • Toile making and manufacturing skills specific to stretch fabrics.
  • Design specific to the properties of stretch fabrics.
